telling us younger ones what a wonderful life we had compared to hers as a child. She was very sanctimonious & I'm sure she meant well but I didn't like her & never went to her home. She thought me worldly & vain as I grew up, & believed in Hell fire. Uncle Bill thought himself head of the family & went about "bettering" himself  going into engineering, attending "night school," & refusing to go "down the mine"  so did Jack who went into the army, serving 7 yrs in India  I loved them both. Bill & Gladys were very good to me & Jack wrote to me frequently from India & my singing master at school knew Jack & I used to take him the letters to read, they were always very interesting & as good as any geography lesson. Jack sent me a case of tropical butterflies which I think Douglas has & Mother had lovely things he sent, I don't know what happened to them, silks & covers, ivory & porcelain statue of the Taj Mahal. Aunt Sally was mean & selfish, I wasn't very fond of her. Aunt Laura was a lovely person both in looks & person but she married a bastard of a man
