My darling Rose

This letter is specially for you to thank you for the pretty little note which I received on Thursday. It sits with the pansy one by Eleanor's picture on my dressing table. It is a beautiful summers day & later I shall be sitting outside though I find it very boring just sitting  I want to be at home doing my garden, but that cannot be so I just indulge in day dreams & memories

Darling, I understand how distressed you are about your mother, us older parents have to come to terms about our children living in far distant countries. You have been very brave & have met the many changes in your life over the last years with great courage & have nothing to reproach yourself for. all loving parents want a better life for their children & I'm sure your mother understands that. It's not easy being a parent Rosie. One wants their children to be under their protection always, but this cannot be. I am very lucky, at least I am in touch by phone & I wish you could be with yoru parents. We have our children for so little time, when suddenly it seems they want to fly the nest & make their own lives. We have to accept that love & pray they will be happy & well & make their own families. Years ago we stayed in our own communities & married other neighbors children, we knew nothing of the outside world, sons only went abroad as soldiers & daughters stayed near to Mum & Dad  One of my brothers was in the army, sent to India for 7 yrs. The journey was by ship which took 6 weeks, letters took 6 weeks & I can remember my mother having cablegrams when Jack was very ill & she didn't know if he was dead or alive  I hope that one day you will see your mother again, she'll understand your position I'm sure. Eleanor is beautiful, you must be very proud of her, but it is due to having good & loving parents Rose. I pray to whatever Gods there are to watch over you & protect you; I am always your second mother.

Love you all  X X X X
