I would walk to the colliery to meet my father & to watch the men come up in the cages & to see my kind gentle father black & scratched & so weary. He would greet me with a smile & Oh! lass thou shouldn't be here How I loved him, dirt & all. I didn't understand then about his gambling & drinking. I never saw him nasty in drink, he never never spoke to us or my mother harshly & loved us all. He had a great rapport with his sons & adored "his girls" to him we were all clever & lovely. Aunts Eliza & Laura you never knew. Liza was a Salvationist & always
