on white, but hordes of
kids booing or cheering the heros & villains
We lived about 200 yds off the main road in one of 4 little
2 bed houses The
road led directly on to the common & in the distance the 3 mines called West Cannock Colliery where Dad worked. At
various times the little
Welsh pit ponies would be brought up for a rest period. The men took great care of them & fed them from their
snap. This was food they took with them for their shift & was
usually thick wedges of bread
& butter or dripping & a bottle of cold tea When Dad came home, as soon as Mum heard him, a cup of tea
was ready & hot water
for his wash before he ate He was very smart when he was cleaned up & wore breeches & leather gaiters
& always a cap & his
moustache curled up almost to his eyes He raced whippets, I think

Sundays were family
days, when which ever members
of the family could, came for tea, usually bringing some goodies or
