My dear Son,

just got your card & Jeanine's came a few days ago. Give her a big kiss & hug from John's Mommy. I hope they won't be too upset when you leave. I have just sent Mary a belated wedding present, I crocheted a round lace cloth. I had kept it for you to take back with you, but thought I'd better send it now. I've been decorating your old room but its hard work now my joints are stiff, or could be idleness in the bones!! Anyway it looks very nice. I shall take it when you come, & we can make any changes to suit you dear. I have to get rid of clothes — now too small!! to make some room for you in drawers & wardrobes.

Tess is having a marvellous time with her Daddy, & is due back next Wednesday, 23rd. I do miss her so, but life isn't too easy for her. She's excited about you coming & says what a lovely birthday present it will be for her. We've had a lousy miserable summer, rain, cold winds, grey skies every day, very little sunshine, though last Sunday I went to Alton Towers with Jean  The Ambulance & Fire Service got up a trip & it was lovely, till 5ish  Then it got grey & cold & rained. The gardens are beautiful there, I should think it must have been one of our most beautiful Stately Homes. I wish now I had got some cards for the children. Though the castle is in ruins, it is still very impressive  Belongs to the Earls of Shrewsbury.

Well, darling, I hope by now you have heard from Barclay's Bank here. There are so many conflicting thoughts on your tax problem. It seems you pay no tax for 90 days, but this is only hearsay. My insurance man just called, so its cold cabbage & lard sandwiches for dinner today.!! I'm only jokey as Tess says. Judy came over last night & brought, spinach, lettuce, cabbage & rhubarb, Phil has an allottment. So today its pork chops, spinach & rhubarb tart. So now love we've just received the children's cards, give them a thank you & a hug for me. Glad you've taken a holiday. Do let us know your plans. Love from all here. Oh: I met Mr & Mrs Fiebush last week, would like to see you. Gaby has 3 kids, lives in Southport. Loads of love

        Love to all
