The Season Turns

by Lynette Rose Derbyshire

•  Background

A poem by Mrs. Derbyshire.

At the poet's request I have used the modern simplified characters (简体字) for her poems, instead of the traditional ones (繁體字) used elsewhere in these readings.

•  Text of the poem

    季转

        齐红玫

叶绿叶黄又一秋
日升日落水悠悠
花败叶落叹季短
唯盼冬去春不完

My translation:

    The Season Turns

Leaves green; leaves brown; now again comes fall.
Sun rises; sun sets; far waters reflect it all.
Flowers die; leaves drop; too fast the year takes wing.
I look past winter's end to lasting spring!
