I haven't written anything for ages, I always mean to. Yesterday Muriel phoned with the sad news that Harold's wife Win had died suddenly the night before. This made me very sad for my brother, left so badly disabled from burns 13 yrs ago. Harold has always been my favorite brother, he helped me when I sat exams, gave me my fees, always cheerful. I think of the war years when we were all young. The laughs we had, the fears, the sorrows & pride. Sharing rations & coupons etc. Hiding under the table with my knees under my chin, so scared my [illegible] would be blown off if a bomb was dropping. So many memories, well, the old always look back, it seems a favorite geriatric pastime.

In the last year John has bought the house & we had a patio window put in the dining room, the yard paved & a small pool made. I am so looking forward to the Spring & Summer, to see the bulbs & flowers I have put in. I do so love flowers & always wanted a lovely garden. John is away in North Choina, I miss him so, his cheery "Hello!" on the phone & his call "I'm home" when he comes in.
